Recommendation: Temporary Food Establishments

We are recommending a new method for tracking Temporary Food Unit (TFU) inspections at Facilities that are licensed by a different Health Department (commonly called out of district/county Temporary Food Establishments). In this situation, one Health Department may inspect the Temporary, but that same Health Department did not issue the license.

There were several situations where this workflow was managed using different methods, which created challenges when using Reports/Dashboards for MPR or other needs in Michigan. To resolve these issues and standardize the workflow, we have introduced a new field on the Facility called ‘Out of County TFU’ with the values Yes or No.

When a Facility is ‘Out of County TFU = Yes, that implies that the Facility is licensed by another district/county. This distinction will help segment data further in Reports/Dashboards and help inspectors quickly identify an out of county Facility.

Example #

A TFU Establishment is licensed by another Health Department, but you are conducting an Inspection at the TFU in your district/county.

Actions to take: #

The ‘Out of County TFU’ field is set to Yes.

The Inspection Purpose should be similar to what is used for other Establishment Types (Routine, Follow Up, etc.)
